13 Sensational Somebody or Someone Songs (2025) [📷: Brent Faulkner / The Musical Hype; Raša St from Pexels; AcatXIo, Clker-Free-Vector-Images from Pixabay]13 Sensational Somebody or Someone Songs features songs by Aaliyah, Benson Boone, Ella Fitzgerald, Emitt Rhodes, Latto, and Morgan Wallen.

“Ineed somebody, or someone, damn it!” 😳 😬 😮 Did that made-up quote sound somewhat dramatic? Did the damn it at the end seal the deal, making the lines sound like they hailed from a thrilling, action-packed scene? Admittedly, I’m being dramatic 😏, and it was probably lame – not the flex I thought. But you know what? F🤬ck it 🖕, I introduced both keywords for this playlist, right? Right ➡️. Both somebody and someone are pronouns.  Somebody can also be a noun, per Merriam-Webster: ‘a person of position or importance.’ They are synonymous or closely related – brothers in the word kingdom!

Enough yapping about absolutely nothing. 13 Sensational Somebody or Someone Songs is focused on somebody and someone.  All 13 songs feature one of the two words in their titles.  That, my friends, was non-negotiable.  Regarding somebody, it was highlighted previously on The Musical Hype: 15 Songs Where ‘Somebody’ Is in the Title (2018). Did you see that date tho’ 👀? It’s been a while! Focus, focus, focus! 13 Sensational Somebody or Someone Songs features songs by Aaliyah, Benson Boone, Ella Fitzgerald, Emitt Rhodes, Latto, and Morgan Wallen.  So, without trying to make things any more outlandish with poorly executed non-movie quotes, nonsensical statements, and unnecessary profanity, let’s explore and be thoroughly entertained by these 13 Sensational Somebody or Someone Songs!

1. Morgan Wallen, “Love Somebody”

I’m The Problem » Big Loud » 2025

Morgan Wallen, I’m The Problem [📷: Big Loud / Mercury]“I just wanna love somebody who won’t leave a hole in my heart / I just wanna love somebody that don’t want me fallin’ apart.” That is a reasonable request, Morgan Wallen! The country superstar brings a different flavor to “Love Somebody”, an early single and the 22nd track from his fourth studio album, I’m The Problem, released in 2025. There are lots of cooks in the kitchen when it comes to songwriting, including Wallen’s pen. Joey Moi and Charlie Handsome produced “Love Somebody,” which has a pleasant, easygoing sound from the beginning. As always, Wallen shows he possesses a great voice, sounding quite beautiful on “Love Somebody.”  Even if this is a ‘less country’ country song, Morgan still brings ample twang and expression.

The melodies are rhythmic and tuneful in the verses. “I need someone that I’d be proud / To take on back to my hometown,” he sings in the second verse, concluding, “Honest eyes that just ain’t gonna lead.” Word. In the chorus, the melody is legato and even more tuneful. Besides a strong vocal from Wallen, there’s a lovely, refined instrumental break that precedes the final chorus.  Wallen is polarizing for various reasons, but the East Tennessean country musician is talented.  He shows off such talent without a hitch on this enjoyable and memorable number.

2. Blessing Offor & Dolly Parton, “Somebody’s Child”

“Somebody’s Child” » Capitol CMG, Inc. » 2024

Blessing Offor & Dolly Parton, Somebody's Child [📷: Capitol CMG, Inc.]“Do you remember dreaming? / Do you remember home? / Do you remember feelin’ / Like you were not alone?” Nigerian singer/songwriter Blessing Offor reminisces in the first verse of his sincere, touching pop, gospel-infused song, “Somebody’s Child”. The memories are beautiful and unforgettable. Also unforgettable are the tuneful melodies performed by Offor.  He, Joy Williams, and producer Josh Ronen penned it.  Additionally, he collaborates with a musical icon, the one-and-only Dolly Parton.

“We’re all somebody’s baby

We’re all somebody’s child

We’re all some kinda crazy

We’re all some kinda wise

We’re all full of amazing

We’re all flirting with lies

We’re all somebody’s heartache

Somebody’s can’t wait, somebody’s why

We’re all somebody’s baby

We’re all somebody’s child.”

The chorus is the crème de la crème of “Somebody’s Child.” Offor sublimely performs it following his verse.  Parton takes the reins in the second verse, penned like the first. “They join forces in the second chorus, with the help of choral vocals. A bridge precedes the final chorus, which is incredibly heartfelt and stirring. Gospel music cues are firmly in play, from the warmth and prevalence of the piano to the choral vocals, but, this is more of an inspirational pop record. Ultimately, “Somebody’s Child” is feel-good and uplifting, a musical blessing.

3. Benson Boone, “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else”

American Heart » Night Street / Warner » 2025

Benson Boone, American Heart [📷: Night Street / Warner]“I’m sorry, I’m here for someone else / But it’s good to see your face / And I really hope you’re doing well.” Benson Boone and she have ‘history’ on “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else”, the opening track from his sophomore album, American Heart.  But he’s not there for her! You see, on this single, penned by Boone, Jack LaFrantz, and producer, Jason Evigan, Benson, waiting on his new girlfriend for dinner, goes to the diner where his ex-girlfriend is a waitress. Awkward! In the chorus, excerpted above, he continues, “I’m sorry, I’m here for someone else I wish that I could stay / And talk at the bar all by ourselves / But I’m here for someone else.”

“Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else” is enjoyable and characteristic of Boone’s music to date.  The pop/rock cues remain but the synth texture is a welcome sound as well. The melodies are quick and rhythmic.  As always, Boone ‘brings it’ when he sings.  The section to beat is the chorus, which is excerpted in the intro and later appears fully.  In the outro, Boone brings contrast which keeps things interesting.  So, how does this resolve? In the bridge, Benson admits he is still in love – shocker.  In the outro, “running for the kitchen doors,” he confesses, “I can’t lose you again, not again, not again, not again.” Wow.

4. Latto, “Somebody”

“Somebody” » Streamcut / RCA » 2025

Latto, “Somebody” [📷: Streamcut / RCA]“I really need somebody / Tell me you that somebody.” Latto is ‘in the mood’ on her 2025 single, “Somebody”. “Baby, tell me what you in the mood for (Huh?) / Type shit we should get a room for (Yeah),” she raps, sexily in the first verse, adding, “Got me in the mirror getting’ cute for it (Mm) / Lie back, let me show you what I do for it (Ah).” Ooh-wee! Notably, “Somebody” has no shortage of ‘cooks in the kitchen,’ featuring seven producers: Pooh Beatz, BassKid, Go Grizzly, London Jae, Bryan Yepes, bgpbass (Bren), and Rex Kudo. Adding to the allure, the 1998 Aaliyah classic, “Are You That Somebody”, is sampled.  The sample adds writing credits from Timbaland and the late Static Major (1974 – 2008).

“Somebody” begins with smoother vibes.  I love the plucked strings and the ‘chipmunk soul’ combo. Past the 30-second mark, the trunk-rattling beat and an edgier sound kick in. There is still an intimate vibe, but the music ‘digs in’ more. Latto, then, drops that yearning, ‘need somebody’ hook:

“Uh, love the way you touch my body (Body)

From the back, get bodied (Bodied)

I’ll never tell nobody (Give it to me baby, give it to me baby)

All I want is you, boy, all I want is you.”

Once the verses kick in, the Grammy-nominated rapper is hard-nosed and tough-minded.  She kills it with her agile, rhythmic rhymes and compelling flow. Arguably, the second verse is the one to beat – it slaps something fierce! “Damn, sheesh / You make it so hard to be P / Got me wearin’ my heart on my sleeve / I be missin’ you soon as you leave,” she spits, adding, “I get messy, you might need a mop / Just like Messi, we kick it a lot / While she textin’, I’m climbin’ on top.” Oh, snap 🫰! Speechless 😶! Latto steams things up with “Somebody”, that’s for sure!

5. MONSTA X, “SOMEONE’S SOMEONE”

ALL ABOUT LUV  » Epic » 2020

MONSTA X, ALL ABOUT LUV [📷: Epic]“We all wanna be someone’s / Wanna be someone’s, someone / With somebody we can’t live without,” I.M and Kihyun of MONSTA X sing in the chorus of “SOMEONE’S SOMEONE”. The South Korean pop collective is incredibly relatable as they sing about L-O-V-E throughout “SOMEONE’S SOMEONE”. The song was released as a single in 2019. It appears as the fifth track on the K-Pop group’s 2020 album, ALL ABOUT LUV. Although brief, it sounds appealing, innocent, and sweet to the nth degree. Notably, MONSTA X sings exclusively in English. Lyrically, it’s straightforward, as the boys focus on matters of the heart ❤️.  “Maybe this is crazy, crazy just to wonder,” Shownu sings in the first verse, continuing, “Wonder if there’s someone meant for you.” Another prime example of simplicity and straightforwardness arrives in the second verse, where Hyungwon and Minhyuk comment about how we strive to be perfect to attain love:

“Sick of being perfect, perfect with no reason

Reasons are for people you’re meant to lose

Someone’s full of secrets, secrets in the shadows

Shadows leave excuses breaking through.”

In the pre-chorus, Kihyun asks a legit question: “But is there someone to give it all?” Ultimately, MONSTA X shines on the soundly written (Toby McDonough, Riley McDonough, yesh, Jeff Sojka, and Connor McDonough) and produced (Connor McDonough) “SOMEONE’S SOMEONE”.  The innocence is refreshing, boding well for the group.

6. Aaliyah, “Are You That Somebody?”

I Care 4 U » Blackground » 2002

Aaliyah, I Care 4 U [📷: Blackground]“(Uh) / Dirty South (Uh-huh), can y’all really feel me? (Feel us) / East Coast, feel me (Feel us), West Coast, feel me (Say what?).” Woo! In 1998, Grammy-nominated R&B singer Aaliyah (1979 – 2001) unleashed a surefire R&B banger: “Are You That Somebody?”. Timbaland and the late Static Major (1974 – 2008) wrote this classic. Timbaland, then one of the most innovative producers in the game, also produced it. “Are You That Somebody?” samples two songs, according to WhoSampled: “People Say” by The Meters and “Happy Baby” by Jac Holzman. It originally appeared on the soundtrack for the 1998 movie Dr. Doolittle. It ultimately appeared on Aaliyah’s posthumously released 2002, platinum-certified compilation album, I Care 4 U.  “Somebody” impacted the pop charts, peaking at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2023, the Recording Industry Association of America certified the single gold. “Somebody” earned her first Grammy nomination at the 41st Annual Grammy Awards for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.

“Are You That Somebody” begins with Timbaland setting the tone with his infectious vocals and signature, electronic-tinged, innovative beats.  At the time, he was one of the freshest, most unique producers in the game, and he shows off his skills mightily from the jump. Aaliyah steps in, beginning in the first verse, wowing with her angelic, smooth, and sultry vocals.  She doesn’t hold back her feelings, asserting, “Boy, I’ve been watching you like the hawk in the sky / That flies, but you were my prey.” The melody is rhythmic, tuneful, and instantly catches the ears.  In the second verse, we get more of the same: “Oh, boy, see I’m trusting you with my heart, my soul / I probably shouldn’t let you.” Yeah, probably not, but the heart wants what it wants, right? The section to beat is the chorus, one of my personal favorites of the 1990s, hands down:

“If I let this go

You can’t tell nobody, I’m talkin’ ‘bout nobody

Are you responsible

Boy I gotta watch my back, ‘cause I’m not just anybody

Is it my go, is it your go? cDon

Sometimes, I’m goody-goody

Right now, I’m naughty-naughty

Say yes or say no, ‘cause I really need somebody

Tell me, are you that somebody?”

In her brief but successful career, Aaliyah charted 15 songs on the pop charts (a few posthumously). “Are You That Somebody?” has a strong case as the best song from her catalog.  This question song NEVER grows old.

7. Anthony Russo, “Someone Like You”

“Someone Like You” » Sewing Apples Inc » 2024

Anthony Russo, Someone Like You [📷: Sewing Apples LLC]“How’d I find someone like you?” Midwestern-bred pop singer/songwriter Anthony Russo asks on his dedicated single, “Someone Like You”.  Throughout “Someone,” Russo is ‘head over heels’ for her – in awe.  He wrote and produced the three-minute song himself with solid, sound results. The song is more alternative/indie pop stylistically. What makes it such a likable song? Russo has a sick voice. Here, he sings expressively in a nuanced fashion.  Beyond his tone being awesome, his songwriting is on point, too.  The lyrics are honest and heartfelt.  In the first verse, he asserts, “Baby, you’re / So easy eyed / Like walking on water / You make my world stop every time.” Aww! In the third verse – perhaps outro is the best description – he sings, “I promise to hold you when you run out of strength.” Oh, the feels! While the song lacks a true chorus, it features the titular lyrics at the end of the first and second verses.  Revisiting the final verse/outro, Russo’s vocals are their most powerful and overt. That dedication is through the roof.  All in all, Russo serves up sheer excellence on “Someone Like You”.

8. The Weeknd, “Is There Someone Else?”

Dawn FM » Republic » 2022

The Weeknd, Dawn FM [📷: Republic]“Oh, is there someone else or not? / ‘Cause I wanna keep you close / I don’t wanna lose my spot.” Oh, snap, The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye)!  Rather than potentially live in untruth, the Grammy-winning Canadian superstar wants to know if she’s with someone else on “Is There Someone Else?” In the first verse, Abel admits to lying in the past, but now, he believes she’s the one being dishonest. “I don’t deserve someone loyal to me / Don’t you think I see?” he sings in the second verse, continuing, “And I don’t want to be a prisoner to who I used to be / I swear I changed my ways for the better, the better / ‘Cause I want to be with you forever, forever.” Those are heartfelt and honest lyrics from him.  Expectedly, the singing is on point, bringing those lyrics and the beautiful melodies to life. Another compelling, ear-catching moment from his 2022 album, Dawn FM, “Is There Someone Else?” was produced by The Weeknd, Oneohtrix Point Never, TBHits, Peter Lee Johnson, Max Martin, and Oscar Holter.

9. Jung Kook, “Somebody”

GOLDEN  » BIGHIT MUSIC » 2023

Jung Kook, Golden [📷: BIGHIT MUSIC]“Oh, oh, we both know / Say it again, say it again / Like oh, oh, it’s time to let go.” Sounds deep, Junk Kook… said no one ever.  The pre-chorus of “Somebody” leaves more to be desired, at least out of the context of the song. What is our handsome pop artist getting at? Hmm 🤔. “Somebody” marks another brief track – the trend on the South Korean artist’s 2023 debut album, GOLDEN.  “Somebody” picks up the pace compared to the preceding cut, “Hate You.” So, what fuels the fire in this song? Those pesky, universal matters of the heart, of course! “Winter’s cold / And summer’s strange / Don’t turn around / And act like you don’t feel the same,” Jung Kook asserts in the first verse. In the second verse, he’s “Came to terms / Things have changed / My heart can sense it, I don’t need you to explain.” Noted. With the excerpted pre-chorus following each verse, the centerpiece, the chorus, answers the questions, filling in those blanks:

“When you go out in the night

You’re under lights

Oh, I hoped you’d find

Somebody to ride, somebody to die

Oh, I hope you’d find somebody

I hope you know that somebody ain’t me.”

Oh, snap 🫰! The chorus is one of the more tuneful of GOLDEN with its repetitive moments as well as the infectious “la-la-la(s).” The groove kicks in during the first chorus, helping “Somebody”  to pack a meaner, more sizable punch 🤛.  Jon Bellion, Allen Ritter, and Roza produced this enjoyable GOLDEN cut.

10. Lewis Capaldi, “Someone You Loved”

Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent » Universal Music » 2019

Lewis Capaldi, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent [📷: Universal Music]“Someone You Loved” is indisputably the mainstream breakthrough by Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi. It is the crown jewel from his 2019 album, Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent. The former number one hit is a gorgeous piano ballad that emphasizes his prodigious vocals. He possesses a one-of-a-kind voice that has a hypnotic, mesmerizing quality. Additionally, “Someone You Loved” is simply a well-written song. Capaldi, Ben Kohn, Pete Kelleher, RØMANS, and Tom Barnes composed it while TMS produced it. “I’m going under, and this time, I fear there’s no one to save me,” Capaldi sings on the first verse. He adds, “I need somebody to heal, somebody to know / Somebody to have, somebody to hold.”  As compelling as the verse lyrics are, the chorus marks the most memorable and elite moment of this Grammy-nominated gem.

“Now the day bleeds into nightfall

And you’re not here to get me through it all

I let my guard down and then you pulled the rug

I was getting kinda used to being someone you loved.”

“Someone You Loved,” unsurprisingly, was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America. This song was a big, big deal!

11. Natalie Cole, “Someone That I Used to Love”

Don’t Look Back  » Capitol » 1980

Natalie Cole, Don't Look Back [📷: Capitol]“Though you’re always someone in this world / That I’ll always choose to love / From now on/ You’re only someone that I used to love.” Ouch, Natalie Cole (1950 – 2015)! He is an ex for a reason, I suppose. The vibes are similar for the legendary, late Grammy-winning singer in the second verse of “Someone I Used to Love”, the sixth track from her 1980 album, Don’ t Look Back. Working through being brokenhearted, Cole sings, sincerely, “When you must begin / To ease the pain of a broken heart / Tell me why should I even care / If I have to lose your love?” With its relatable and thoughtful lyrics and sentiment, Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin wrote “Someone I Used to Love.” Masser also produced it. A successful single on a less successful album, “Someone I Used To Love” peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Before unveiling a third verse regarding this ended love, Cole shares the bridge.  Reflecting on their relationship, she asserts, “I did my best to keep you satisfied / I guess you’ll never know how much I tried / I really tried.” Sometimes, it’s just not enough, Natalie, sigh. In the third and final verse, she is clear about how it’ll go down: “Well, you won’t find me being the one to get lost again.” In the outro, she still questions the union they once had, trying to recover.  Even though it’s arduous, she reminds herself that she used to love him.  Supported by a gorgeous, tender music backdrop, Natalie Cole eats on this ever-enduring, heartbroken ballad. She sings authentically and expressively, blessing the listeners with her once-in-a-lifetime voice throughout “Someone I Used To Love”, the best thing about the lackadaisical Don’t Look Back.

12. Emitt Rhodes, “Somebody Made For Me”

The Emitt Rhodes Recordings (1969 – 1973) » UMG Recordings, Inc. » 2009

Emitt Rhodes, The Emitt Rhodes Recordings (1969 - 1974) [📷: UMG Recordings, Inc.]“Somebody made for me, somebody made for you/ (Ask and you’ll receive) / Mmm, good God in heaven, won’t you help me please?” Prayers sent up! Emitt Rhodes (1950–2020) has been dubbed a cult pop singer-songwriter. Not all musicians become ‘superstars,’ yet that doesn’t mean their craft and musicianship aren’t ultimately respected or eventually acknowledged. Rhodes put his foot into the brief, two-and-a-half-minute gem, “Somebody Made For Me”. “Somebody” originally appeared on his self-titled 1970 album. It reappears as the 15th track on the compilation, The Emitt Rhodes Recordings (1969 – 1973).  Rhodes wrote the song himself, producing with Harvey Bruce. If you have never heard it up to this point, man, oh, man, are you missing a treat!

Throughout “Somebody Made For Me,” Emitt Rhodes sings beautifully, with incredible ease. He brings a cool but potent energy. The lyrics are simple, easily accessible, and memorable. “Somewhere someone special just for me,” he sings sentimentally in the first verse, continuing, “Somewhere someone special must be.” The second verse is crafted similarly: “Somewhere someone special just for you / Somewhere someone special, it’s true.” Easy, easy on the ears. Beyond his lead vocals, Rhodes gets great support from equally cool background vocalists.  The harmonies are radiant. The melodies are tuneful from the get-go and remain consistently tuneful. There is a nice separation provided on the bridge section.  It differentiates itself from the verses and chorus yet is related to the theme: “I’ve been searching all my life / Guess I’ve looked most everywhere / Many girls have caught my eye / But that special one’s not there.” One final verse, like the first two, and one final chorus conclude “Somebody Made For Me.” Beyond great singing and sweet songwriting, the music is sensational! The lovely instrumental backdrop features distorted guitar, a fat bass line, piano, a dash of organ (or similar sound), and an anchoring drum groove.  The guitar-led instrumental intro sets the tone. The harmonic progression is sweet, too. “Somebody Made For Me” is a must-hear ‘70s bop.

13. Ella Fitzgerald, “Someone To Watch Over Me”

Ella Sings Gershwin » Verve Label Group » 1950

Ella Fitzgerald, Ella Sings Gershwin [📷: Verve Label Group]“There’s a saying old, says that love is blind / Still, we’re often told, ‘Seek and ye shall find’ / So, I’m going to seek a certain lad I’ve had in mind.” Aww! Ella Fitzgerald (1917 – 1996) was one of the greatest jazz singers of all time, PERIOD.  Truly the ‘First Lady of Song,’ she ‘ate’ every time she stepped to the mic – NO CAP! One of her most gorgeous performances is “Someone To Watch Over Me”. “Someone” is the opener from Ella Sings Gershwin, released in 1950.  Although the recording is 75 years old, it sounds as beautiful and vibrant as ever. “Someone To Watch Over Me” was famously penned in 1926. George Gershwin (1898 – 1937) composed the music while his brother, Ira Gershwin (1896 – 1983), composed the lyrics.

On “Someone To Watch Over Me” and the entire Ella Sings Gershwin album, Fitzgerald is accompanied by Ellis Larkin (1923 – 2002) on piano.  The results are magical as Larkin provides a fitting backdrop for Ella to paint those one-in-a-lifetime pipes over. Her tone is radiant – exquisite to the nth degree.  As she sings, nothing sounds forced – everything sounds easy and natural. Her performance is nothing short of stellar.  After setting the tone with the slower pace in the verse (excerpted above), the chorus packs more punch, with a quicker tempo. “There’s a somebody I’m longing to see / I hope that he / Turns out to be / Someone who’ll watch over me,” she sings memorably, continuing, “I’m a little lamb who’s lost in the woods / I know I could / Always be good / To one who’ll watch over me.” “Someone To Watch Over Me” is a timeless standard in the hands of anyone who performs it.  It is extra special in the hands of Ella Fitzgerald.
