Ah, bring on Midnight Heat 🕛 🔥! Wait – it is not usually hot at midnight! Well, it is steaming hot 🥵 at midnight when it comes to this naughty, innuendo-laden, and sex-laden column featuring songs intended for nighttime. These risqué, unapologetic records often raise eyebrows and temperature alike. In the 45th edition of Midnight Heat (2025), we explore the naughty, sexy vibes behind “Somebody” by Latto.

Notably, “Somebody” has no shortage of ‘cooks in the kitchen,’ featuring seven producers: Pooh Beatz, BassKid, Go Grizzly, London Jae, Bryan Yepes, bgpbass (Bren), and Rex Kudo. Adding to the allure, the 1998 Aaliyah classic, “Are You That Somebody”, is sampled.  The sample adds writing credits from Timbaland and the late Static Major (1974 – 2008).

“Somebody” begins with smoother vibes.  I love the plucked strings and the ‘chipmunk soul’ combo. Past the 30-second mark, the trunk-rattling beat and an edgier sound kick in. There is still an intimate vibe, but the music ‘digs in’ more. Latto, then, drops that yearning, ‘need somebody’ hook:

“Uh, love the way you touch my body (Body)

From the back, get bodied (Bodied)

I’ll never tell nobody (Give it to me baby, give it to me baby)

All I want is you, boy, all I want is you.”

Arguably, the second verse is the one to beat – it slaps something fierce! “Damn, sheesh / You make it so hard to be P / Got me wearin’ my heart on my sleeve / I be missin’ you soon as you leave,” she spits, adding, “I get messy, you might need a mop / Just like Messi, we kick it a lot / While she textin’, I’m climbin’ on top.” Oh, snap 🫰! Speechless 😶! Latto steams things up with “Somebody”, that’s for sure!
