Here in Aggieland, home of the 73,000 students attending Texas A&M, planners will find a widespread Texas city with plenty to offer when the meeting participants have gone home. Want more? College Station has plenty of suggestions for fun things to do when you're on your own.
Library of a Leader
One of the main draws in the city is the George
H.W. Bush Presidential Library, a stately representation of our 41st
president’s numerous governmental roles, and the benchmarks of his life
in and out of the spotlight. The graves of the president and wife Barbara
are part of the grounds.
Runway Dining
A novel spot to land for lunch or dinner is Gate 12 Bar & Grill at Easterwood Airport, a small regional facility. With views of the field’s ramp and runway, guests are treated to stunning sunsets while choosing from the extensive menu of steaks, sandwiches and seafood, a wild array of sides, and creative cocktails, such as the Easterwood Sunset and the Mile High Mule.
Plant Based
The 7-acre Texas A&M Gardens are part of the school’s 5,200-acre campus. The walk crosses White Creek by the Upstream Bridge, and meanders by the Food and Fiber Fields, the Fruit Orchard and the German Heritage Garden. The facility also features Butterfly and Bee, and Texas SuperStar gardens.
Cultural Immersion
Theater, music, dance and more are onstage at OPAS, the professional performance space at the university. Michael Feinstein’s tribute to Tony Bennett plays there in September, followed by the Tina Turner musical and the Kingdom Choir in November. “Chicago” will hit the stage in February.
Cooling Off
All-natural ice cream flavors from the familiar to the unusual are scooped at Lick. Taste-test the banana pudding; roasted beet and fresh mint; or the strawberry and creme.
